Plane crashes in Kentucky shortly after takeoff
August 27, 2006 · No Comments
I live about 20 min from the Airport and from what I’ve heard it sounds like the plane took off on the wrong strip and wasn’t able to clear the tree tops which they clipped causing them to crash. They have said there are “significant fatalities” but they did say at least one person was transported to a local hospital and it’s believed to have been one of the pilots, but say they are still searching for more survivors.
Very tragic and may God bless those people and their families.

Save Digg
August 9, 2006 · 1 Comment
This is just awsome! Get back at the those fickle diggers who took Calacanis’s bait to switch to Netscape. This Page lists the three switchers and the stories that they submitted to Netscape and a link to submit it to digg.
To contribute to digg by undermining Netscape visit Savedigg.com .
And to digg the site go here.
P.S.
Digg won’t allow you to link directly to savedigg.com because it thinks you are directly linking to digg.com.

WWDC ‘06

Like just about every other person I was glued to Engadget yesterday waiting to see what his Highness Steve Jobs would unveil to us. And while the new Mac Pros are astoundingly fast machines, I must say I’m somewhat let down. Of the 10 Leopard features shown off only two caught my eye. First is of course “Time Machine” which looks awesome and the second being “Spaces“, not so much for it’s innovation but mainly because it’s about time OS X had virtual desktops.
Another feature not shown in the keynote that caught my attention is that Mail will now also be a RSS reader. Though I doubt anyone will be using it to replace NetNewsWire it’s about time Apple add this feature too.
The one thing that I kept waiting for was the announcement, or lack thereof, a new revised Finder. So I can only really hope that it’s one of the things Apple’s keeping a secret for now.
To see all of this yourself go check out the Keynote here.

Lostify: Metadata Tagger for MP4 Videos
July 28, 2006 · 1 Comment
The other day as I was organizing my iTunes library before I left on vacation I was struggling to find a way to organize my TV shows the same way as the ones bought off of ITunes Music Store. After a few failed attempts to add the tags Show, Season, and a description I turned to trusty Google and came across a little app called Lostify.
Lostify is very simple app that allows you to access all of iTunes’ different tags. All you do is drag the file or files to the icon and it will pop-up a screen showing all of the meta-data. I will say it’s not the cleanest or most straightforward app. There is no real batch processing though you can lock certain tags so that they don’t change fro file to file but each one is still individually done.
This functionality really should be in iTunes and I don’t know why it’s not but until then Lostify is Universal Binary that gets the job done and is a good tool to keep in the arsenal for organizing all of those iTunes TV shows.

Flock - Review
July 25, 2006 · 1 Comment
Having been a Mac user for going on several months now I’ve experimented with several different browsers, from Apple’s own Safari, to the ever popular Firefox and it’s OSXified cousin Camino. But Recently I switched permanently to Flock.
Flock is based on the FireFox browser but has been heavily modified to fit with all of the new great web services. I had tried the original developers release back on the PC and to be honest wasn’t entirely impressed. But the new Beta on OS X is stunning, both in looks and in functionality.
First and foremost, what is the difference between Flock and FireFox? Flock is deeply integrated with all the new Web 2.0 web services. For bookmarking it works with both del.icio.us and Shadows. I use del.icio.us so that’s what I will focus one. When you go to add a favorite or “Star” a page it allows you to add it to both your local bookmarks and your del.icio.us account, allowing you to add both tags and a description.
The other big feature is it’s integration with photo sharing services Flickr and PhotoBucket. Again I use Flickr so that’s what I will focus on. It has an integrated upload tool and it has “Topbar” that shows your Flickr photos in your browser and allows you to add those photos to your blog entries.
Which brings me to the next big draw of Flock, that beings its built in blog editor. While simple, it allows you to blog about current pages and drag-n-drop both photos and snippets of text in to the editor. It works with all major blogging platforms and has built in support for both Blog Categories and Technorati Tags.
The other stand out feature is the “My News” tool which is Flock’s RSS reader. By far this is the best RSS reader in any of the current generation of Browsers with a well designed page that is meant to imitate that of a newspaper. It is very simple(too simple?) to use even for those unfamiliar to RSS.
Never the less there are some problems. The del.icio.us posting tool lacks auto-completion of the tags and it doesn’t load your tags like almost any-other del.icio.us tool like Pukka or the plug-in available for Flock(which I use) and FireFox. Also the My News RSS reader does not easily all allow access to the actual XML link so that it can be added to an external Feed Reader such as the one I use, NetNewsWire. The new FireFox 2.0 has strong external feed reader integration and I expect that to be worked into future releases of Flock. Hopefully they will be able to also integrate with online feed readers like FeedLounge and NewsGator.
I highly recommend Flock to anyone who uses the above services and likes a fast, full-function browser. Flock will not disappoint and I look forward to seeing what the developers have in store for it.

Digg Swarm
July 20, 2006 · 2 Comments
Digg yet but soon to be released “Swarm” feature that shows in real time diggers activity and the most active stories is really cool.
But I for one do not plan on keeping it going on my browser all of the time, but my idea is to(if it’s possible) to create a kick-ass screen saver that updates in real time show all the digg activity. If they made that possible somehow that would be the most awesome thing every.
Now back your regularly schedule, non-gushing, blogging.
